D-backs Take Series Sweep
Historic Third Inning Leads to Arizona Victory
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Arizona Diamondbacks used a historic third inning to finish off a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series on Wednesday night at Chase Field.
The D-backs scored seven runs in the third inning, the most runs scored in an inning by any team in the NLDS since the 2017 Dodgers.
Christian Walker and Ketel Marte hit home runs in the inning, and Daulton Varsho added a two-run double.
Ryne Nelson started for the D-backs and allowed just two hits in five shutout innings. He struck out seven batters and walked two.
Bobby Miller started for the Dodgers and allowed three runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out five batters and walked two.
The Dodgers had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Will Smith grounded out to end the game.
The D-backs will now advance to the National League Championship Series, where they will face the Atlanta Braves.
