Braves Acquire Chris Sale In Blockbuster Trade

Braves Acquire Chris Sale in Blockbuster Trade

Sale Heads to Atlanta in Exchange for Grissom

The Atlanta Braves have made a significant addition to their rotation, acquiring left-handed starter Chris Sale from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for infielder Vaughn Grissom and $17 million in cash considerations.

Sale, 33, is a seven-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion. He has won 115 games and struck out 2,400 batters over his 12-year career. The southpaw was traded to the Red Sox from the Chicago White Sox in 2016 and has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the American League since then.

Grissom, 22, is a top prospect who made his Major League debut with the Braves in 2022. He is a versatile infielder who can play shortstop, second base, and third base. The Braves are expected to give Grissom an opportunity to start at shortstop in 2023.

The trade fills a major need for the Braves, who were looking to add a top-of-the-rotation starter. Sale is expected to slot in behind reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Spencer Strider in the Braves' rotation.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, are getting a young, talented player in Grissom. He is considered one of the best prospects in baseball and has the potential to be a star in the Major Leagues.

The trade is a major win-win for both teams. The Braves get a proven ace to help them compete for a World Series title, while the Red Sox get a young player who could be a key part of their future.
