Elvis: The King of Rock and Roll

A Look at the Life and Legacy of a Music Icon

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935–August 16, 1977)

Elvis Presley, known simply as Elvis, was an American singer and actor who rose to fame in the 1950s. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest cultural icons of the 20th century. Elvis's unique blend of pop, rock, and country music, along with his charismatic stage presence, made him a global superstar.

Growing up in a poor family in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis was exposed to gospel music at a young age. This early influence would shape his musical style throughout his career. In 1954, Elvis signed with Sun Records, and his debut single "That's All Right" became a regional hit. By 1956, Elvis had signed with RCA Records and released his self-titled debut album, which topped the charts and made him an international sensation.

Over the next two decades, Elvis would continue to release hit songs and albums, including "Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock," "Love Me Tender," and "Suspicious Minds." He also starred in more than 30 films, including "Jailhouse Rock" (1957), "Viva Las Vegas" (1964), and "The Trouble with Girls" (1969). Elvis's popularity was immense, and he was known as the "King of Rock and Roll."
